On the topic of Lords and skillpoints, what do people think of the mods that add extra skill points? On the one hand, it certainly diminishes the value of any particular skillpoint, as you'll be getting a bunch more, but on the other hand, it seems to make a lot of practical sense, as you simply can't afford to have enough armies to be able to really specialize them. Also, when you factor in confederating, extra skill points will let you offset less than ideal picks by the AI.Mind, I also often find myself taking yellow line buffs last, picking up the blue line first (well, enough to get lightning strike and the capstone) and then red line enough to buff the specific units I use a lot of before going yellow, because blue line buffs let me do things like field more armies or replenish units faster, and red line buffs make half a dozen units stronger, where yellow only buffs the lord specifically.
